Section of Penfield Road to be closed temporarily starting April 30

According to the Monroe County DOT, a section of Penfield Road will be closed temporarily while crews rehabilitate a nearby bridge.

The superintendent of highways will close Penfield Road between two intersections, including one at Old Penfield Road across from Panorama Plaza.

The street will be closed starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 30 and is expected to be shut down for approximately six months until the bridge work is completed.

Local names on tax delinquency list

New York State has released this year's list of the top 250 business and individual tax debtors on its website, and it has some local names on it.

The list includes 6 people total from Monroe County. At the top of the list locally, Webster real estate investor Jason Palmer.

Also making the list: the owner of the now defunct Hawthorne's Restaurant, East End bar and restaurant owner Ronnie Davis, and former Milestones owner Bruce Miles.

Electronics recycling event held May 5 in Webster

A free electronics recycling event, open to the entire Rochester-area community, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the United Church of Christ, 570 Klem Road, in Webster.

Computers, phones and numerous other electronics will be accepted, though most televisions will not be accepted. Hard drives will be cleaned for a $10 fee.

New air quality report released

The American Lung Association has released a new air quality report that ranks each county and the good news is that the air we breathe in New York has improved.

According to the report, only six of the 34 counties across the state received a failing grade for air quality compared to 16 from last year.

Monroe County got a “C” which is an improvement from the “F” grade in 2011.

Power being restored to thousands in our area

Thousands were without power in our area following Monday's storm.

As of 7:00pm, RG&E had 237 customers remain without power and NYSEG had just over 1,000 customers without power.

RG&E says power should be restored by 10:00pm Monday.

Community forum on bullying to be held in Penfield May 3

Families and community members are invited to attend a citizens awareness forum on cyber and bully abuse on Thursday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at Baywinde Community, 200 Kidd Castle Way, Penfield.

The event, presented by Citizens Against Teen Suicide (C.A.T.S.) and the Bullying Awareness Community of Webster will feature guest speaker Dr. Sam McQuade III, professor at RIT and nationally recognized authority on cyberbullying.

Other special guests include Sen. Mike Nozzolio, Penfield Supervisor Tony LaFountain, Kurt F. Karshick, of Xelex Technologies, a mother who will share her story, and student representation Alyssa Trahan. Refreshments will be provided.
