Comedy Club in Webster to hold comedy classes

The Comedy Club will be holding comedy classes on Empire Boulevard in Webster on Saturday afternoons. The classes have been split into three separate clinics.Students can choose to attend any one clinic, or all three.

Ginna to test public notification system Wednesday

Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario will perform a test of its public notification system.

The test will be between 9:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and will involve sounding all 96 sirens. Residents who live within a 10-mile radius may hear it. 

The test is expected to last between three to five minutes.

 


 

Former Pittsford CSD superintendent Mary Alice Price to be honored

Mary Alice Price, the former superintendent of the Pittsford Central School District, will be inducted into the New York State Senate’s “Women of Distinction” by Senator Ted O’Brien Tuesday night.

"I am honored to welcome Ms. Price to Albany and recognize her for a remarkable career in education,” Senator O’Brien said.  “Her leadership and dedication to providing our children with a welcoming, nurturing learning environment serve have made our community a better place.  She is truly deserving of this award, and it is a privilege to name her one of the Senate’s 'Women of Distinction.'”

Senator O’Brien says this program honors women who have made significant contributions in fields including business, education and community leadership, or who have overcome significant adversity.

Penfield school district to hold public budget meetings

The Penfield Board of Education adopted its proposed $87 million school budget for 2013-14 last week and is now welcoming taxpayers to bring their questions and concerns to a series of public meetings before they hit the polls next month.

The district will hold open public meetings on the budget on the following dates:

Saturday, May 11 from 9-11 a.m: Budget Open House, Penfield Community Center

Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m: Joint Elementary PTA Meeting, Bay Trail Middle School

Penfield Superintendent Stephen Grimm will also hold a “Drop In Day” at various local businesses on Thursday, May 16:

9-10 a.m. - Starbucks with the Superintendent, Penfield Starbucks, 1806 Penfield Rd.

12-1 p.m. - Soup with the Superintendent, Panera Bread, Panorama Plaza, 1601 Penfield Rd.

6-7 p.m. - Sandwich with the Superintendent, Don's Original, 2055 Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd.

Penfield fitness club to host fundraiser for Water For South Sudan

Members and guests are invited to a special day of fitness classes to benefit Water for South Sudan at Penfield Sport and Fitness on Saturday, May 11.

Classes will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the club, located at 667 Panorama Trail West, Rochester.

Guests may take any class, or use the workout room, for a donation to Water for South Sudan.

Four finalists selected for Newark CSD superintendent

The Board of Education in the Newark Central School District has chosen four finalists in its search for a superintendent when current superintendent, Henry Hann, retires this summer.

The four candidates – Dr. Mary Aronson, Brett Provenzano, Matt Cook and Nelson Kise – will visit the schools in the district to tour the schools and meet with students, staff and community groups throughout the day before having dinner with and meeting with members of the Board of Education.

Schedule:

Provenzano will visit on May 20
Cook will visit on May 21
Kise will visit on May 22
