"Springtime Celebration" with the Penfield Symphony Orchestra | Events
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Penfield Symphony Orchestra will perform "Springtime Celebration" on Monday April 23 at 7:30pm at Penfield High School Auditorium.
The concert begins with Suppé’s Overture to Poet and Peasant, one of the composer’s best-known works, requiring about 75 players.
More than half of the orchestra will be missing for the next piece, Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C major, with the RPO’s Jan Angus as the piccolo soloist. She is a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches at the Eastman Community Music School. In keeping with Baroque style, Ms. Angus will be accompanied by a reduced string section and harpsichord.
Finally, in Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, all the regular players will return to the stage, augmented by a dozen others – woodwinds, brass, and a second set of timpani to accomplish the full range of Mahler’s original and dramatic ideas of orchestral sound, from delicate to grandiose.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for seniors. Students may attend the concert free, so this is an ideal opportunity to bring the family along for an evening of classical entertainment. Tickets are available online at www.PenfieldSymphony.org, at local ticket outlets (all Rochester Wegmans, Canandaigua National Bank - Four Corners Branch, Family First Federal Credit Union, Hegedorns Supermarket in Webster, Kittelberger Florist and Gifts in Webster, Penfield Recreation Office - Baird Road Community Center) and at the door.
