Scholar Athlete of the Week 9/13: Dan Lynd | People
Penfield's Dan Lynd learned at a young age that doing well in school pays off. “My sister always set a good example for me. My parents always told me school comes first and I've seen the benefits my sister got from being a good student I always try to follow in her footsteps.”
Dan maintains a 90-average and has taken 3 APs and five honor courses. He loves history. “I don't know it just interests me, I feel like if you can learn from the mistakes of the past you can help make solutions for the future.”
His other love is sports. “Since I was four years old, I was always playing soccer. I think my dad threw a ball in the front yard and I went to work.”
Lynd has been goalie since the seventh grade. Last year the Patriots won sectionals. This year as captain, he hopes to lead his team to another title. “It's an honor. I love having the responsibility of my teammates they trust me and I enjoy it. I'm more the lead by example. I'm not the loudest guy so if I can show I work hard, they'll work hard too.”
Lynd is also a starter on the basketball team and plays soccer in the spring and summer on a traveling club team. He looks forward to college and hopes to continue to play at Pitt, Hartford or UMass. “I still have tough choices to make but I'm really excited about it I'm looking at some great schools.”
