Charles Finney School to host family friendly auction

Charles Finney School in Penfield is hosting a family friendly auction on Saturday April 27 from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.

There is no admission fee to attend and the auction has something for all ages. There are kids games, all you can play for $3, candy bar bingo, concessions w/ walking tacos and ice cream,  silent and live auction items for everyone in the family.  They are also raffling off four Disney tickets w/hopper passes at noon. It's a $1,300 value.  There will also be two PGA Weekly Grounds Tickets up for bid as well.  A $570 value.

Greece CSD educator recommended for assistant principal job in Brighton

Greece CSD educator recommended for assistant principal job in Brighton

An educator who has spent 19 years in the Greece School District is being recommended for the assistant principal position at French Road Elementary School in Brighton.

On April 23, Deanna Spagnola will be recommended to the Brighton Board of Education from a large pool of qualified applications.

Principal of French Road Elementary School Matt Comeau said, “Ms. Spagnola brings a sincere and dedicated desire to do what is best for children. I am very pleased to recommend Ms. Deanna Spagnola to the Board of Education and look forward to being in partnership together with the students, staff, and parents at FRES.”

Spagnola most recently served as the K-5 Coordinator of Special Education in the Greece Central School District. She will start with the Brighton School District on July 1.

Spagnola lives in Penfield with her husband and three daughters.

Take the wheel of a Ford to benefit St. Joseph School

You are invited to test drive a Ford to benefit St. Joseph School in Penfield on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The school says it will receive $20 per driver (up to $6,000). Those interested in participating can stop by the school, test drive a car and then fill out a survey. You do not need to be in the market for a new car to participate.

Van Bortel Ford of Fairport will be at the school with its 2013 F-series pick-up trucks as well as Mustangs.

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

St. Rita School in Webster will benefit from cruise-themed gala April 20

The “SRS cruise ship,” the theme of the fourth annual Blue and Gold Ball to benefit St. Rita School in Webster, will set sail at High Falls in Rochester on Saturday, April 20.

This year's event is expected to "stay afloat" with all the excitement that accompanies cruise ship festivities. 

In addition to silent and live auctions at the ball this year, guests will be welcome aboard to bid online at www.biddingforgood.com/srs. There are more than 100 auction items.

New to the silent auction this year will be "priceless teacher experiences," which include sixth grade teacher and Hall of Fame inductee Marguerite Laniok's Charm School.

Lilly Fursman, coordinator of the "teacher experiences" said, "the teachers have been so creative in coming up with fun ideas for the students.”

Help raise money for Our Lady of Mercy crew team

Ford Motor Company and Henderson Ford are helping to raise money for Our Lady of Mercy High School's crew team. Through the Ford's Drive 4 UR School Program, Ford will donate $20 for every person who test drives a Ford vehicle.

Members of the community can test drive a Ford at Mercy High school on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To test drive a car, drivers must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license. There is a limit of one test drive per household.

Rochester Catholic Diocese names new superintendent of schools

The Rochester Catholic Diocese has a new leader for its schools.

Anthony Cook will take over on July 1. He is succeeding current superintendent Anne Willkens-Leach, who is retiring.

In the meantime, Cook, a Rochester native, will continue his responsibilities as principal of Seton Catholic School in Brighton.
