Catholic Schools Week starts on Sunday

Catholic Schools Week 2014 stars on Sunday with 20 Diocese of Rochester schools celebrating the benefits of Catholic schooling by hosting multiple events throughout the week.

Catholic Schools Week began in 1974 and always begins the last Sunday in January.

Monroe County kicks off holiday season with tree lighting and holiday concert series

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Monroe County Office Building. County Executive Maggie Brooks flipped the switch on the county's Christmas tree lights Wednesday afternoon.

It also marked the kickoff of the county's lunchtime holiday concert series, which features local school bands and choirs twice a week at the county office building. The first concert featured the Wheatland-Chili High School Band.

Pittsford schools top Business First's upstate school rankings list

For the third year in a row, Pittsford schools are at the top of Business First’s upstate school rankings.

Business First makes its annual list using four years of data from the state's education department.

Fayetteville Manlius was ranked number two and Honeoye Falls-Lima broke the list's top three this year. The Brighton School District came in at number four.

Born Yesterday hits Webster Thomas stage

Webster Thomas High School proudly presents Born Yesterday, by Garson Kanin, on November 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $6 ($5 for students and seniors), and will be sold at the door.

Born Yesterday is Billie’s story as she discovers that there’s more to life than what she has, and that a little learning gives her control over her destiny. Thus, Billie’s journey to become more than what she is seems right at home on the Thomas stage.




St. Rita's School presents Bebop with Aesop

St. Rita School presents Bebop with Aesop, a musical storytelling of Aesop’s fables performed by the school's third and fourth graders.

Performances will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., as well as Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.



Book Drive Collects Over 2,000 Books for Rochester City School Students

Henderson Ford helped hundreds of students focus on reading through their Fill a Ford Book Drive. The Webster-based dealership held its third annual book drive and set a goal to fill a Ford Escape full of books for students at Rochester City School Number 52, Frank Fowler Dow Elementary School.

State Road Elementary School students to contend for Cup Stacking World Record

It will be cup crazy at State Road Elementary School as the students take part in what Guinness World Records terms the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event” on November 14.

On this day, sport stackers from around the world including State Road Elementary School will be up stacking and down stacking various pyramids in different patterns at lighting speed for at least 30 minutes, all combined with variety of fitness activities.  Sights are set on 500,000 stackers participating as sport stacking with Speed Stacks continues to gain popularity across the globe.
