Henderson Ford and Local Community Raise over $5,000 for Mercy High School’s Crew Team

 

Henderson Ford, Mercy High School and members of the local community raised $5,340 for Mercy’s crew team at a recent test-drive event, as part of Ford Motor Company’s Drive 4 UR School program. For each of the 267 Rochester-area residents who test-drove a Ford vehicle at the event, Ford Motor Company donated $20. The event was held April 13.

The Drive 4 UR School initiative has raised and donated over $16 million to high schools nationwide to use where the school needs support – athletics, music, even to fix damages from natural disasters.

32 local schools to perform at RBTL's Stars of Tomorrow

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Stars of Tomorrow 15th Annual Recognition Ceremony, presented by Palmer’s Direct To You Market, Sponsored by McDonalds, will be held on Thursday, May 2, at the Auditorium Theatre in Rochester. The Stars of Tomorrow is a program that celebrates high school musical theatre productions in the greater Rochester area in true Tony Award fashion.

Five are vying for three seats on the Webster Board of Education

The deadline to submit petitions to run for Board of Education in the Webster School District (and in districts across the state) was 5 p.m. on April 22.

Webster voters May 21 will be selecting three school board members from among five candidates.

Residents will have the opportunity to meet the candidates and learn their views at a Meet the Candidates Night at 7:30 p.m. next Monday, April 29, in the auditorium at Spry Middle School, 119 South Ave., Webster.

The candidates are Paul Benz, Mike Gustin, Laura Harder, Tom Nespeca, and Lisa Smith.

At the Meet the Candidates Night, moderator Ann Carmody will present them with questions provided by the audience and the PTSA, sponsor of the event.

The event will be broadcast live on cable channel 15 and re-air during subsequent weeks before the May 21 Webster Central School District Election of Candidates and Budget Vote to be held at Webster Schroeder High. The poll will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Take the wheel of a Ford to benefit St. Joseph School

You are invited to test drive a Ford to benefit St. Joseph School in Penfield on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The school says it will receive $20 per driver (up to $6,000). Those interested in participating can stop by the school, test drive a car and then fill out a survey. You do not need to be in the market for a new car to participate.

Van Bortel Ford of Fairport will be at the school with its 2013 F-series pick-up trucks as well as Mustangs.

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

Charles Finney School to host family friendly auction

Charles Finney School in Penfield is hosting a family friendly auction on Saturday April 27 from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.

There is no admission fee to attend and the auction has something for all ages. There are kids games, all you can play for $3, candy bar bingo, concessions w/ walking tacos and ice cream,  silent and live auction items for everyone in the family.  They are also raffling off four Disney tickets w/hopper passes at noon. It's a $1,300 value.  There will also be two PGA Weekly Grounds Tickets up for bid as well.  A $570 value.

Greece CSD educator recommended for assistant principal job in Brighton

Greece CSD educator recommended for assistant principal job in Brighton

An educator who has spent 19 years in the Greece School District is being recommended for the assistant principal position at French Road Elementary School in Brighton.

On April 23, Deanna Spagnola will be recommended to the Brighton Board of Education from a large pool of qualified applications.

Principal of French Road Elementary School Matt Comeau said, “Ms. Spagnola brings a sincere and dedicated desire to do what is best for children. I am very pleased to recommend Ms. Deanna Spagnola to the Board of Education and look forward to being in partnership together with the students, staff, and parents at FRES.”

Spagnola most recently served as the K-5 Coordinator of Special Education in the Greece Central School District. She will start with the Brighton School District on July 1.

Spagnola lives in Penfield with her husband and three daughters.
